Pardon Our Dust UPDATE

LANE Construction continues with work on GRTC Pulse, a new bus rapid transit system serving the Richmond Region, from Rocketts Landing to Willow Lawn. Currently, utility relocation activity is occurring along Broad Street, between Thompson and Laurel Streets. Permitted work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Please note: overnight lane closures may be permitted if unforeseen field conditions arise. If this occurs, additional notifications will be made as soon as possible.
Utility relocation activities continue; all should be complete in approximately two more weeks. All schedules are weather and progress-dependent.  

WEEKLY RECAP: Monday, October 17 to Saturday, October 22
Utility Relocation: Night Crews worked from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., on Mon., Oct. 17 and Tues. Oct. 18. Work was completed, as scheduled.

  • Where:  Eastbound Broad St. from Ryland St. to Laurel St.
  • Impacts: Two right lane closures on eastbound Broad St.

Utility Relocation:  This is daytime work (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

  • Where:  South side of eastbound Broad St., from Thompson St. to Laurel St.  
  • Impacts:  Temporary closures of curb lane, adjacent sidewalk and any bus stop in work zones 

Monday, October 24 to Saturday, October 29
Utility Relocation:  This is daytime work (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

  • Where:  South side of eastbound Broad Street, from Thompson St. to Laurel St.  
  • Impacts:  Temporary closure of curb lane, adjacent sidewalk and any bus stop in work zones

Installation of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Signs:  This is daytime work (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

  • Details:  This work is estimated for next week, pending plan approval. Signs will be posted in sidewalks, in advance of the median construction work due to begin in a few weeks. Signs indicate “no left turn,” etc. Initially, signs will be covered over, until MOT is needed for median construction (estimated week of Nov. 14).
  • Where:  Eastbound and westbound Broad Street, from Thompson St. to Foushee St. 
  • Impacts:  Temporary closures of curb lanes and parking, between Thompson St. and Foushee St., in both the eastbound and westbound directions. Parking will be restored in areas once signs have been installed. 



Monday, October 31 to Saturday, November 5
Utility Relocation:  This is daytime work (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

  • Where:  South side of eastbound Broad Street, from Thompson St. to Laurel St.  
  • Impacts:  Temporary closure of curb lane, adjacent sidewalk and any bus stop in work zones

Phase I Station Construction / Roadway Demolition: This is daytime work (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) permitted and estimated to begin on Mon., Oct. 31.

  • Where:  North side of westbound Broad St., between Allison St. and Strawberry St.
  • Impacts: Temporary closures of the westbound curb lane and adjacent sidewalk, as well as temporary loss of street parking, from Allison St. to Strawberry St. 


NOTE:  Once work in this location (between Allison St. and Strawberry St.) is complete, roadway demolition is expected to move to the median of Broad Street between Thompson Street and Laurel Street. Impacts will involve closures of the inside median lanes, in both the eastbound and westbound directions.
