Important GRTC Bus Rider Information

Work zones temporarily close any GRTC bus stops within that area. Operators are announcing closed bus stops to inform customers. GRTC offers the following two choices for customers unable to access their bus stop in a work zone.
  • Customers can request a stop at the next open bus stop. Before exiting the bus, ask the Operator for a free "Emergency Transfer" to board a bus across the street. Ride that bus back to the original destination, cross the street again in the pedestrian pathways through the work zone. Please note: this free pass is timed to accommodate customers needing to connect onto a different bus as a result of a closed bus stop.
  • Customers may remain on the bus to the Temporary Transfer Plaza and ride back to the original destination across the street without paying another fare.

  1. Hmmmm... yeah this option is a major fail. Obviously the folks at GRTC who come up with these "helpful" alternative methods of accessing a rider's stop think that customers have nothing better to do than joy ride the bus all day. The majority of your customers are short on time and need to arrive at their destinations by certain time. They also don't have the luxury of leaving early to make up for the inconvenience that GRTC is imposing on them with the closing of bus stops for a service that will not take the folks who really need it to the places they really need to go. Why you don't listen to your customers is a true mystery to m.

  2. One positive thing I'd like to thank GRTC for: the full area bus maps in the shelters on Broad Street. It's helpful to be able to see more than one bus route at a time. Thank you so much for those maps and shelters! Hoping we get more like 'em!

  4. I have been riding GRTC Bus to work for many years even thru route/frequency cut backs and increased fares.
I really can't see any reasoning to delete/move Bus Stop #1607 for any cost saving.
This stop is located in front of a Federal Courthouse and their maintenance crews keep the area/sidewalks clean daily (snow, ice, trash & etc.).
Being a Federal Courthouse is located at this stop, the security is monitored 24/7 and very well-lit at night which is an added bonus.
The building at the stop has a overhang which offers protection in bad weather waiting for the bus.
As you know it's the first and most western Main St. stop for bus route "16 Grove" at this Stop #1607.
RideFinders, a division of GRTC Transit System is really a convenience being located across the street to purchase fare cards(1013 East Main Street)
Due to being partial disabled the extra buren of a 2 and half block walk in clear or bad weather would be difficult if Stop #1607 is moved.

    1. I too use that bus stop, it was nice to step off my bus to cleared/treated bus stop this morning after the weekend snow storm. removing this stop would be a bad idea.
