Pardon Our Dust UPDATE

LANE Construction continues work on GRTC Pulse, a new bus rapid transit system serving the Richmond Region, from Rocketts Landing to Willow Lawn. This week, rain and inclement weather prevented LANE from performing construction activity on Mon., Jan. 23. Work resumed on Tues., Jan. 24, with continuation of roadway work on the north side of westbound Broad St. Traffic signal work continued at intersections throughout the Pulse corridor.

Most of the work in the look-ahead is occurring during permitted work hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.  On Thursday, Jan. 26, night work (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) was required for traffic signal work on Broad St. starting at Thompson St. and progressing eastward. Night work is expected to continue through the coming weeks, at signal intersections throughout the entire Pulse corridor.

All schedules are weather and progress-dependent.

Starting Mon., Jan. 30, the median and inside lanes (eastbound & westbound) of Broad St., from Hamilton St. to 1st St., are expected to close until the GRTC Pulse median stations in this area are constructed. In addition to the median and inside lane closures, motorists should anticipate lane shifts in areas where median stations are being built. Lane Construction will uphold MOT at all times.

Traffic will be guided by weighted orange barrels, signage, protective fencing and concrete barriers. They are there for the general safety and well-being of the traveling public, as well as Lane’s workers. Motorists are advised to slow down, obey all traffic signs and watch out for workers and pedestrians when traveling through work zones. Please remember: Orange Cones = NO Phones.

While Lane Construction is committed to work zone safety, accidents can sometimes occur. If you accidentally hit any equipment, such as an orange barrel, please call the GRTC Pulse Construction Hotline, (804) 980-0084.

Pulse Traffic Advisory: Broad St Median & Inside Lane Closure Between N. Hamilton & 1st St

Pulse construction work is expected to progress to the median-running section of the Pulse route beginning Monday, January 23, 2017.

The inside lanes and median of Eastbound and Westbound Broad Street will close between N. Hamilton and 1st Street to facilitate median station construction and new median construction, as permitted by the City of Richmond Department of Public Works Work In Street Permit (WISP-010848-2017).

This closure will permit LANE Construction to build median stations concurrently, when possible, through May 30, 2017. Staging for work in this area will occur within the closure space, limiting area impacts. Two travel lanes in each direction of Broad Street will remain open. The future median Pulse-only dedicated travel lanes will be permanently closed to general vehicular traffic.
On-street parking impacts will occur when individual median stations are constructed, as shown here:  Parking (I-195 to Bowe St); Parking (Ryland St to 14th St). Specific updates will be provided as the station construction progresses. The first median station expected to be built is Allison St Eastbound, and you can review parking changes here.

The schedule is progress- and weather-dependent. Pedestrian pathway detours and street lane closure signs will be posted accordingly. Please follow construction signage and be aware of construction workers and vehicles within the work zone(s). Pedestrians are advised to follow work zone signage in the sidewalk area. Travelers may notice temporary barriers while this closure is in effect.
